POWER

What does it mean to have power?  Often people assume that power, like money, is a    limited resource that exists outside of themselves: some people have it instead of others.
The truth is that we have an unlimited amount of power inside.  Early in life, we were taught    to trust others more than ourselves.  Of course, that was necessary when we were young       enough to need someone to tell us to keep our fingers out of the electric socket.  As adults, we no longer need that sort of basic advice; however, it is easy to look to others for emotional permission.
What does emotional permission mean?  If you have ever felt that you couldn't tell            someone that he or she hurt your feelings, because you were afraid of their reaction, then you  were waiting for, and not receiving, emotional permission from that person.  In reality, you were not giving yourself that permission to express yourself.  You didn't realize you had the power to say how you felt, and you gave that power to the person who hurt your feelings.  This sort of thing is very common, and can be very painful, because so much gets trapped inside.
As your therapist, I can help you to find the ways in which you give your power to others.  I will help you to navigate the sometimes perplexing, but often exciting, world of your personal power.  When you rely on your inner self to make decisions, you will experience a freedom you may not know was possible.
